Dave's a Safety!

This is the letter that Dave wrote, by himself, in hopes to be chosen to be a safety.

My name is David Ferry. I am a fifth grade student at Seylar Elementary where I have completed every year of school so far. Since I started at Seylar, I have often thought of what it would be like to become a safety. Now that I am in fifth grade, I think I deserve a shot at becoming a safety. Here are my reasons why.

My first reason is that I would not yell “single file line!” as I have seen other safety’s do in the past. Instead I would stop the line and go to where the problem is and kindly ask the students to get into a straight line.

The next reason is that I would follow my duties all year long. I will not get lazy as the year goes on. I will stay at my post at all times and not become distracted by other friends or students that pass by me. I will try to be a good role model and set a good example to everyone that passes me the whole year long.

The next reason is that my dad is a police officer and he has taught me some things to be a leader. He has taught me how to be nice to people and to be helpful to people. He has also taught me right from wrong and has taught me to not be afraid to do the right thing.

The last reason is that I would be polite and respectful to the little kids when they come in with birthday treats. I would not ask them if I could have one of their treats like some of the safety’s did when I was a little kid. If I saw or heard another safety ask, I would stop them and explain why it is not nice to ask little kids for their birthday treats.

These are the reasons I think I would make a good safety.
